Safety Data Sheets
Natural stone contains crystalline silica. If you are cutting, grinding or polishing our product, you need the safety data for it, and we are the ones who have to give it to you.

Requesting a Safety Data Sheet
Email info@valentestone.com.au with the stone name and, if you have it, the slab or bundle number from your delivery. We will send the current Safety Data Sheet for that product. There is no charge and you do not need to be the original purchaser to ask.
If you need it for a job that is already underway, say so in the subject line and we will prioritise it.
Why this matters
Marble, quartzite and granite are natural stone and contain crystalline silica, in widely varying amounts depending on the stone. Cutting, grinding, drilling or polishing releases respirable crystalline silica dust, and breathing that dust over time causes silicosis and other lung disease. This is not a paperwork exercise.
Since 1 September 2024, Australian work health and safety regulations have required processing of any crystalline silica substance to be assessed and controlled, and they require suppliers and importers like us to label products correctly and provide a current Safety Data Sheet. Your own duty as a fabricator is to work out the silica content of what you are cutting from the supplier's label, Safety Data Sheet or product information, and to control the dust accordingly.
Working with our stone safely
The Safety Data Sheet is the authority, and your own risk assessment and state regulator's guidance come before anything on this page. In general terms:
- Cut, grind and polish wet, or with on-tool extraction rated for the job. Never dry cut engineered or natural stone in the open.
- Use respiratory protection appropriate to the assessed exposure, fit tested to the person wearing it.
- Do not dry sweep or use compressed air to clean up. Wet methods or a suitable vacuum only.
- Keep dust out of the rest of the workshop, and out of the clothes people take home.
- Check what your state or territory regulator requires, including any licensing, air monitoring and health monitoring obligations.
Natural stone, not engineered stone
We supply natural stone. We do not sell engineered stone, which was prohibited nationally from 1 July 2024. Natural stone remains legal to supply and to work, and carries its own silica risk that has to be controlled properly.
